National War College Students Visit Republic of Moldova



CHISINAU, May 11, 2012 — Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta met Friday, May 11, at the Ministry of Defense HQ, with a group of students from the United States National War College, who are currently in a familiarization visit to the Republic of Moldova.

The Minister of Defense appreciated the visit of the American students to the Republic of Moldova saying this will deepen their knowledge in the Moldovan security and defense area.

“As future leaders of the US Government, you should have a clear view about the democratic processes worldwide. From this point of view, I am sure that by visiting Republic of Moldova, you will get objective information about all the social and political life aspects in our country, as well as Republic of Moldova’s role as for the modern security architecture in the light of the frozen conflicts issue”, the Defense Minister specified.

While at the Ministry of Defense, the US students got acquainted with some specific aspects of the National Army current activity and future plans. The hosts told them about the role and missions, the stages of development, modernization programs and basic missions of the National Army.

The participants also made a review of the Ministry’s of Defense main achievements. The leadership of the Ministry pointed out the ongoing support the National Army gets on behalf of the USA through different technical assistance and military training programs supported the reform of the defense sector.

The Head of the Defense Policy and Planning Division, LTC Vladimir Ababii, stated the US National War College students intend to visit the 3rd Independent Infantry Peacekeeping Battalion based in Cosnita.

“The American students will be familiarized with the peacekeeping operation in the Republic of Moldova Security Area, infrastructure and technical equipment of the unit. The commander of the unit will hold a short briefing on the mission of Cosnita Battalion and some basic points about serving in the peacekeeping forces”, the source said.

The United States National War College students’ visit to the Republic of Moldova is held May 9-11 as part of a regional studies program in the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.
