Honor to Anti-Air Missile Unit Staff

CHISINAU, May 20, 2012 — The Anti-Air Missile Regiment celebrated Sunday, May 20, the 20th anniversary since the establishment of the military unit.

On this occasion, the best servicemen of the regiment were decorated with Serve the Fatherland Medal and the Medal for Excellent Service, as well as the Eminent Military Man Insignia.

The Commander of the Air Force Command, Col. Vadim Cemirtan, highly appreciated the professional level and the hard work of the unit personnel.

“I am confident that you will be always committed to professional development in order to contribute to the skillful, strict and efficient management of all the situations occurring in your daily activity. This is due to the fact you are good and strong team. Your mission of defending the air space of the country has national and strategic significance”, Col. Vadim Cemirtan said.

The Commander of the Anti-Air Missile Regiment, Col. Ion Braniste expressed his confidence the entire personnel of the unit would keep enhancing the National Army readiness capabilities. The joint work with the other forces of the national defense system will guarantee the supreme values of the Republic of Moldova.

“I want to be sure the development of the anti-air capabilities will encourage the further modernization of this kind of weapon, with a rich tradition in our army. In my opinion, this kind of weapon will have a rhythmic development depending on the modern technical supply and in compliance with the changes of the air means system. However, the role of the anti-air missiles will definitely grow given the defensive treat of the national military doctrine and the defensive quality of the anti-air means”, Col. Braniste stated.

At the end of the 20th anniversary event of the Anti-Air Missile Regiment, the guests had the opportunity to watch some weapon-handling techniques, wrestling exercises and an exhibition of military equipment of the unit. The event brought together guests of honor, pupils and students from Chisinau, as well as parents of conscripts.

The Anti-Air Missile Regiment is the only National Army unit to work 24 hours a day. The regiment has the mission to watch over and defend the Republic of Moldova air space.

On May 18, 1992, through Republic of Moldova President decree, the regiment passed transferred from the Soviet army to Republic of Moldova jurisdiction and has become an important component of the National Army. In 1993, the Anti-Air Missile Regiment was awarded the battle flag during a solemn ceremony and named “Dimitrie Cantemir”.
