Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta Meets With Head of US Defense Intelligence Agency



CHISINAU, July 11, 2012 — Issues of bilateral cooperation between defense institutions, with the focus on intelligence services, have been discussed today by Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta and the Head of the US Defense Intelligence Agency, Lt.Gen. Ronald L. Burgess, arrived to Republic of Moldova to attend the 7th Symposium on Black Sea and Caspian Sea Security held in Chisinau.

During the meeting, the parties appreciated the high level of bilateral cooperation between the Moldovan and the US armies in the defense area, revealing the existence of some possibilities to enhance cooperation through a wide variety of programs. Vitalie Marinuta and Ronald L. Burgess also discussed about the regional and international security issues, including the chance to identify some joint defense projects of great important for both states, as well as for the world community.

Vitalie Marinuta stated the Alliance for European Integration has set a clear Republic of Moldova European Union integration goal. Its governing program also focuses on the development of a cooperation relationship with the USA and other partner states, democratization of society, as well as enhancement of cooperation with world institutions and organizations.

Gen. Burgess appreciated the efforts of the Republic of Moldova authorities in the democratization and modernization of our country, as well as the actions of the Ministry’s of Defense leadership in the reform of the defense and security area of the state. Therefore, Gen. Burgess specified the American party is for a stronger cooperation with the Republic of Moldova authorities in all areas.

The US Ambassador to Republic of Moldova, William Henry Moser, also took part in the above meeting.
