Bronze for Moldova at Taekwon-do World Championship


Chisinau, August 10, 2012 — Simion Furdui, member of the Central Sports Club of the Army (CSCA) won the bronze medal at the Taekwon-do World Championship, junior category, held August 6-13 in Ottawa, Canada.

The 17-year-old sportsman competed at individual sparring, International Taekwon-do Federation (ITF) version.

According to the interim chief of the Central Sports Club of the Army, Ionut Tanase, all the seven sportsmen taking part in the competition on behalf of the Republic of Moldova are members of CSCA. The team is trained by the National Army officer Iurie Spataru. “The National Army sent to this year championship well-trained sportsmen, including the European champions Nicolae Capatina and Victor Culeac. I am confident they will come back home with many medals”, Tanase stated.

The Taekwon-do World Championship is held once in two years. This year edition brought together about 700 sportsmen from over 25 countries.
