American Experience for Moldova EOD Engineers

Chisinau, September 26, 2012 — A group of American EOD Engineers currently visits the National Army as part of a familiarization event held September 24-27.

According to LTC Mihail Semionov, Chief of National Army EOD Division, the visit deals with the evaluation of EOD capabilities of the National Army and their improvement through some joint cooperation projects as for example the establishment of a national EOD training center.

“The National Army has no EOD professional development centers designed to train experts in the EOD area. Given the rising number of explosive devices found all over the country and the Republic of Moldova’s responsibilities in term of National Army modernization process, such an institution is essential both, for the defense institution and civil population”, LTC Semionov said.

In his turn, the leader of the American experts’ group, Cpt. Steven Hagemeyer, stated the Moldovan EOD engineers will be always supported by their US colleagues in establishing a specialized center designed for EOD staff. “The US army has modern EOD training centers as well as experts with wide experience in theaters of operations, which will be definitely useful for the training of Moldovan EOD engineers within this structure”, Hagemeyer specified.

During the visit, the American experts also familiarized with the infrastructure of Codru EOD Battalion, as well as the equipment and training areas of the Moldova EOD engineers.
