Officer Epaulets for Graduates of the University of Medicine



Chisinau, October 11, 2012 — A group of resident physicians of the University of Medicine and Pharmacology (USMF) “Nicolae Testimitanu” have received the rank of doctor-lieutenant during a ceremony held at the institution’s headquarters.

The epaulets were awarded by the Chief of Personnel Directorate of the Main Staff, Col. Eduard Ohladciuc, who called the young lieutenants to join the health divisions of the National Army. “As military doctors you will have all the required medical modern equipment at your disposal for the patients’ diagnosis and treatment. The National Army needs to have skillful doctors with a high level of professional knowledge ready to face modern medical challenges”, Col. Ohladciuc said.

In his turn, Valeriu Chicu, Deputy Rector of USMF “Nicolae Testimitanu”, stated the institution he represents prepares good medical staff, including for the National Army, where there are currently tens of graduates of the university working in the surgery, therapy, neurology, dentistry, pharmacology and epidemiology areas.

The head of the military and extreme medicine department of USMF, Col. Vasile Dumitras (Ret.), stated that, at the end of the one-year medical training course, students usually pass a general exam on military medicine, followed by the lieutenant-doctor rank awarding ceremony. Vasile Dumitras specified that, except the theoretical classes carried out within the department of military medicine, students are training in the field of campaign therapy, campaign surgery, military hygiene, military epidemiology and dentistry.

The head of the extreme medicine department also said that, this year, USMF, in common with the Ministry of Defense, opened a Master course in military sanitary management. The studies will last two years and the research area of the future Master degree owners will cover the activity of the National Army military units.

The full training course of the Department of the Military and Extreme Medicine last for one year. The course focuses on the issues of sanitary management within campaigns, medical military supply process, campaign surgery, campaign therapy, military hygiene, military dentistry. At the end of the course, the students pass a general exam in military medicine. Then, they are awarded the title of “doctor lieutenant”.
