Guard Battalion Marks 20th Anniversary

CHISINAU, October 19, 2012 — Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta attended the event dedicated to the 20^th anniversary of the Guard battalion held at the Organ Hall, Chisinau.

“The service members of the Guard Battalion have become an indispensable element of the national defense system that have gained the respect, sympathy and confidence of citizens due to their mastership and professionalism in their daily work activity”, the Defense Minister said.

Vitalie Marinuta also appreciated the performance of the Guard of Honor of the Guard Battalion, that has become an emblem of the Republic of Moldova and the National Army throughout years. “This unit of the National Army is a symbol of state and the professionalism and the military uniform the members of one of the elite units of the army wear have been thousands of times appreciated and admired both by the foreigners coming to Moldova, as well as Moldovan citizens”, Vitalie Marinuta also said.

During the ceremony, the veterans and the service members of the Guard Battalion were awarded the medals “Service to Fatherland” and “For Excellent Service in the National Army” , as well as diplomas of honor and gifts, as a sign of high appreciation of performances recorded throughout twenty years of activity.

The Commander of the Guard Battalion, Col. Dumitru Mudrenco, stated the service members of the unit have been always highly appreciated for professionalism both in national and international missions. “The Guard Battalion participated at nearly 30 multinational and bilateral exercises. Each year, they attend about 250 ceremonies, protocol events, foreign official’s accreditation ceremonies and state medals awarding events”, Col. Mudrenco said.

During the event dedicated to the 20^th anniversary of the Guard Battalion, a concert was organized for the service members and their family members, with the performance of the Presidential Orchestra and Doina Armatei folklore band, the famous singers Margareta Ivanus, Natalia Proca and others.
