Service Members Attend „Earth Hour” Events (photo, video)



CHISINAU, March 24, 2013 — All the military units and institutions of the Ministry of Defense turned off the lights for one hour Saturday, March 23. Thus, service members marked the “Earth Hour 2013” environmental event, along with all the international community.

LTC Mariana Grama, Chief of Ecology and Environment Protection Department, Logistics Command, the National Army turned off the lights in all the military units from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Therefore, service members contributed to environment protection measures and decreased the impact of weather changes. “The National Army starting participating in this global event in 2010. This Saturday, it joined other participants by turning off the lights to reduce energy use”, Mariana Grama said.

The source said that National Army service members carried out a flash mob called “The Planet of our Descendants’ Descentants” and participated in the events held on Marii Adunari Nationale Square.

During this event, the students of the Military Academy of the Armed Forces made a live image “60+Moldova 2013” and the Presidential Orchestra performed for the audience. The service members of the Guard of Honor offered tea to all the participants of Earth Hour 2013 world event.

Every year, the mankind mark the Earth Hour to settle the existing global environment issues. Republic of Moldova started participating in this international ecological event in 2008.
