Over 500 Explosive Devices Destroyed by EOD Engineers in MarchChisinau, April 2, 2013 — The National Army EOD engineers disposed in March 514 explosive devices in Straseni, Causeni, Ungheni, Anenii Noi and Orhei districts. Col. Mihail Semionov, Chief of EOD Division of the National Army, said that during this period of time, the engineers were called in 23 times. They located, identified, neutralized, recovered and destroyed 22 artillery projectiles, two hand grenades, two air bombs, 122 grenade warheads, 323 bullets and others. The quoted source said that the largest number of ordnances, 323 bullets of 7.62 mm calibre dating back to World War II, was discovered by a citizen of Branesti village, Orhei, during some construction works. The ammunition was blown up by the EOD team of Engineer Battalion “Codru”, commanded by Maj. Gheorghe Racu. This year, the National Army EOD engineers carried out 36 demining missions and destroyed 551 ordnances throughout the country.
