Moldovan-American Bilateral Talks on Defense Issue



CHISINAU, April 9, 2013 — Representatives of Moldovan and American defense institutions hold within April 8-9 bilateral talks to discuss joint activities for the year of 2014.

According to Col. Oleg Mulco, Deputy Head of Defense Policy and Planning Department, the conference focuses on the review of the Ministry’s of Defense proposed events, scheduled for 2014, as well as the establishment of cooperation priorities between the two armies for the next 24 months.

“The talks cover issues on defense reform implementation and training of Moldovan units for engagement in international peacekeeping operations”, Col. Mulco said.

Sergio Porres, Head of the US Office of Defense Cooperation, declared that American side would keep supporting Moldovan colleagues in the army modernization process so that they improve necessary capabilities to quickly and adequately react in crisis situations in different theaters of operations.

The event brought together representatives of the US European Command, North Carolina National Guard, US Bilateral Affairs Office, as well as representatives of the Civil Protection and Emergency Situations Service of the Republic of Moldova.

Moldovan-American defense cooperation is part of the Defense Cooperation Agreement signed by the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the US Department of Defense on December 4, 1995.
