Anniversaries in the National Army

CHISINAU, May 18, 2013 — Three National Army units celebrated today their anniversary in Chisinau garrison. Acting Minister of Defense, Vitalie Marinuta, attended the 14th anniversary ceremony of the 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion.

Defense Minister awarded the best servicemembers of the Battalion the medal “For outstanding service in the National Army”, class II, and diplomas of honor for great achievements. Vitalie Marinuta said that the peacekeepers of the 22nd Battalion have all necessary skills to participate in peacekeeping missions abroad conducted by international organizations.

“Fourteen years ago, the Ministry of Defense’s leadership intended to create a military unit that would be able to participate in theaters of operations throughout the world. This goal has been successfully achieved and maintained. We intend to enhance our participation in missions by increasing the number of peacekeepers. We also want to deploy contingents to such kind of operations, together with our strategic partners”, Minister Marinuta said.

“About 50 percent of the battalion peacekeepers have participated in UN missions in Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire and Sudan. Most of our soldiers serve in the Security Zone of Republic of Moldova. Our peacekeeping contingents have successfully participated in international exercises, for example, Mission Rehearsal Exercise in Germany, held in March”, LTC Roman Ceban, commander of the 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion said.

The same day, the Anti-aircraft Missile Regiment “Dimitrie Cantemir” located in Durlesti celebrated its 21st anniversary. The event brought together veterans, former commanders, pupils and parents of servicemembers of the unit.

Col. Vadim Cemirtan, Commander of the Air Force Command, congratulated the unit personnel and called them to work with professionalism, commitment and responsibility as they did so far.

In this regard, the best servicemembers were promoted and awarded “Service to Fatherland” medal, class II, as well as diplomas.

At the same time, the National Army Military Command marked its 21st anniversary.
