“Peace Shield-2013” Exercise

Chisinau, July 1, 2013 — A contingent of the National Army and Romanian Army participate, within July 1-4, at the peacekeeping bilateral exercise “Peace Shield-2013” held at Bulboaca Training Center.

According to Col. Andrei Sevcenco, Commander of “Peace Shield-2013”, the exercise aims at assessing operational capabilities of a National Army unit in peacekeeping missions as part of a multinational unit, in compliance with international standards. "The 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion is currently evaluated in compliance with the Operational Capabilities Concept (OCC), Col. Sevcenco noted.

The Commander of the exercise mentioned that 12 experts from the National Army, graduates of training courses abroad and two OCC experts from Italy and Ukraine, are engaged in the exercise. They assist and observe National Army units by giving recommendations and using the best practices from theaters of operations.

150 service members will execute about 25 tactical peacekeeping missions on different training sites. The soldiers will carry out such missions as: patrol, medical evacuation, convoy escort, guard of strategic sites and resistance in case of attack, as well as control at checkpoints.

The National Army joined Operational Capabilities Concept (OCC) in 2007. This concept is a cooperation tool within the Partnership for Peace Program designed to implement NATO-based standards in the training and evaluation process of declared units and readiness of Republic of Moldova for taking part in multinational peacekeeping operations.
