Workshop on Disposal of Pesticides



Chisinau, July 5, 2013 — About 20 National Army servicemembers attend, within July 2-10, a workshop, held within the NATO/Partnership for Peace Project on the disposal of pesticides and dangerous chemicals.

According to LTC Mariana Grama, Head of Ecology and Environment Protection Department of the Logistics Command, the goal of the event is to train servicemembers engaged in the implementation of the NATO/Partnership for Peace Project on the disposal of pesticides. “The participants familiarized with patterns of efficient management of the disposal of pesticides, as well as the process of the evacuation of chemicals,” LTC Grama said.

The workshop program includes such issues as: stages of management of pesticides, procedures and preparation methods of pesticides for export, employment of equipment, loading, weighting pesticides registration means, equipment decontamination procedures, safety measures of pesticide disposal, as well as specialized team’s actions in emergency situations.

The Moldovan servicemembers are trained by two experts of the Company E.S. Field Services Limited Veolia from Great Britain, responsible for the evacuation and disposal of pesticides as part of the project.

The workshop is conducted by NATO Support Agency within NATO/Partnership for Peace Project on the disposal of pesticides and dangerous chemicals, that will be launched in July 2013 and implemented within the Agreement concluded by the Government of the Republic of Moldova and NATO Maintenance and Supply Organization (NAMSO) on the disposal of dangerous pesticides and chemicals in Republic of Moldova during 2013-2014, signed on June 22, 2011, in Brussels.

Remark: The opening ceremony of NATO/PfP Project on dangerous pesticides and chemicals disposal will take place on Tuesday, July 9, at the storehouse of pesticides from Danceni, Ialoveni.
