Vitalie Marinuta Attends South-Eastern Europe Defense Ministerial Meeting



Chisinau, October 3, 2013 — Minister of Defense of Republic of Moldova, Vitalie Marinuta, attends the annual South-Eastern Europe Defense Ministerial Meeting (SEDM), held within October 2-4, in Brdo, Republic of Slovenia.

The participants at the 8th Reunion reviewed the 2013 projects and the activity of the Multinational Peace Force Southeast Europe (MPFSEE).

The topic of the event is “Harmonization of Regional Defense and Security Cooperation”.

During the reunion, Vitalie Marinuta had bilateral meetings with the Ambassador of Italy to Slovenia, Her Excellency Rossella Franchini Sherifis, Minister of Defense of Serbia, Nebojsa Rodic, and the US Deputy Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Evelyn Farkas. The officials discussed some aspects of bilateral cooperation and issues of joint interest in the defense and security areas, with a focus on Republic of Moldova’s availability to maintain peace and stability in the world.

SEDM is a regional initiative, comprising such countries as: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Greece, Italy, Montenegro, Romania, Slovenia, the United States of America and Ukraine.

SEDM was founded in 1996 and aims at enhancing regional political military cooperation and strengthening stability and security in South-Eastern Europe. Every year, Defense Ministers and Chiefs of Staff meet in high level meetings for within SEDM.

Moldova joined SEDM in 2003. Since then, our country has been attending Defense Ministers’ meetings as an observer.
