Moldovan-Ukrainian Meeting at the Ministry of Defense



Chisinau, October 15, 2013 — Defense Minister Vitalie Marinuta met today with the Ambassador of Ukraine to Republic of Moldova, Serghei Pirojkov.

The officials discussed about the current bilateral relations between Republic of Moldova and Ukraine in the defense area, as well as future perspectives of cooperation between the two armies.

The Ukrainian ambassador was accompanied by the new defense attaché of the neighboring state in our country, Col. Igor Olefirenco, as well as Col. Serghei Kosenko, who concluded his tenure in Chisinau.

Vitalie Marinuta awarded Col. Serghei Kosenko with the Medal “For Strengthening of Brotherhood in Arms”, for efforts made in the development of cooperation relations between the two armies.

Marinuta thanked Col. Kosenko for support provided in enhancing Moldovan-Ukrainian defense cooperation and stated, “The Moldovan-Ukrainian bilateral peacekeeping exercise ‘Nord — 2013’, held after a seven-year break, with your personal support and efforts, is a great achievement for our militaries. I highly appreciate your professional skills as a military official in the Republic of Moldova and I wish you success in your future missions”.

The Defense Minister congratulated Col. Olefirenco on his assignment. Vitalie Marinuta expressed his hope that the new defense attaché will keep implementing the projects started by his predecessor in terms of development of the Moldovan-Ukrainian relationship and will identify and carry out some new joint projects in the defense field.

Moldovan-Ukrainian cooperation is based on the Cooperation Agreement signed between the Moldovan Ministry of Defense and the defense institution of Ukraine, on February 19, 1993.
