National Army Servicemembers Remember Dniester War Heroes



Chisinau, March 2, 2014 — National Army servicemembers attended the commemoration events dedicated to heroes dead in the war for the defense of integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova, held throughout the country.

This morning, all the officers and non-commissioned officers from Chişinău, Bălţi and Cahul garissons participated at commemoration divine services in churches and cathedrals of the country and laid flowers at the monuments of the Dniester war fallen heroes.

In Chisinau, the National Army leadership, along with the authorities of the country, servicemembers and 1992 war veterans, laid flowers at Stefan cel Mare’s monument downtown the capital city. The event was followed by a Memory March. The participants walked down Marii Adunari Nationale Square to Maica Indurerata (Grieving Mother) Monument of Eternitate Memorial, where they laid flowers within a commemoration meeting.

Also, the Center of Military Culture and History hosted the opening ceremony of the engraving exhibition dedicated to heroes dead in the Dniester War. At the same time, Theatre “Satiricus” presented the performance "Tara asta a uitat de noi"( This country has forgotten us), based on the 1992 tragic events.

Over 30 thousand people participated in the 1991-1992 Dniester War, that killed over 300 soldiers and civilians and injured 3500 people.
