Moldovan Signal Unit Marks 22nd Anniversary



Chisinau, April 25, 2014 — Defense Minister, Valeriu Troenco, attended today the 22nd anniversary ceremony of the Signal Battalion of the National Army, held in Military Compound 142, Chisinau garrison.

The Ministry of Defense stated, within the ceremony, that the signal specialists had been actively involved in the establishment of the military system of the Republic of Moldova since its first days of existence. The returned Bessarabian signal specialists have considerably contributed to maintaining military properties and ensured connection among the actors of the national military institution, that was under organization during the Transnistrian war, as well as between the military leadership and fighting positions. Therefore, it is important to mention that the unit you are part of was created in war time, and those who contributed to its establishment deserve all our respect, as well as the respect of all citizens of Republic of Moldova“, the Defense Minister said.

Valeriu Troenco also specified that, throughout 22 years of existence, the Signal Battalion showed responsibility, competence and professionalism in all the carried out actions — from missions within the Joint Peacekeeping Forces (JPKF) of the Security Zone to military exercises held inside and outside the country, such as “Combined Endeavor” and “Corner Stone”. “Your performance is well-known and appreciated from the missions carried out during natural disasters, like, for example, your involvement in the floods and landslides relief operations”, the Defense Minister pointed out.

During the ceremony, a group of servicemembers of the unit were awarded medals and diplomas for their performance in their service.

Signal Battalion, initially the Independent Signal Regiment, was established on April 17, 1992.
