Armed Forces Veterans Awarded by Defense Minister



Chisinau, June 20, 2014 — Defense Minister, Valeriu Troenco, awarded a group of veterans of the Ministry of National Defense of Romania and the Ministry of Defense of Republic of Moldova with medals of the National Army, within a meeting at the defense institution HQ.

Thus, six Romanian and Moldovan retired servicemembers received the medals “For Strengthening of Brotherhood in Arms” and “Service to Fatherland” 1st class, as a sign of appreciation of their efforts in the development of cooperation and friendship relations between Republic of Moldova and Romania, as well as for promoting peace and democracy.

Eight other veterans received certificates of appreciation for contribution to the development of cooperation and brotherhood in arms between the armies of Romania and Republic of Moldova.

During the meeting, the parties discussed about the training of the Moldovan servicemembers in military educational institutions of Romania, the cooperation relations of the Ministry of Defense of Republic of Moldova with the defense institutions of other countries, reserve preparedness, the relations between army and church, as well as the military mass-media activity on both banks of the Prut river.

The head of Iasi District Office “Henri Coanda”, retired Col. Gheorghe Pancu, awarded minister Valeriu Troenco with the Diploma of Excellence on behalf of the institution.

The first Cooperation Agreement between the Ministry of Defense of Republic of Moldova and Ministry of National Defense of Romania was signed on December 14, 1992.
