German Defense Attaché Visits Ministry of Defense



Chisinau, July 2, 2014 — Deputy Defense Minister, Aurel Fondos, met today with the defense attaché of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Republic of Moldova, based in Bucharest, LTC Berthold Eisenreich.

The agenda included discussions on the priorities of the National Army in term of bilateral relations with Germany, with a focus on maintaining ongoing support in the military and language training field of the Moldovan officers.

Aurel Fondos appreciated the Germany’s huge effort in the modernization and professionalization of the National Army, as far as the training of soldiers for peacekeeping missions is concerned, which will reinforce the cooperation between the two armies.

LTC Berthold Eisenreich highly appreciated the significant contribution of the National Army in maintaining peace and stability in the world, by deploying Moldovan peacekeepers to Kosovo, as well as the military observers to UN missions in Africa. The German official noted that his country will continue to support the Moldovan defense reform and the development of military education in Moldova, by providing more training opportunities to Moldovan officers within German language and command courses.

Also today, LTC Berthold Eisenreich met with the Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Igor Gorgan, and the National Army Command Corps. The parties discussed the logistics needs of the defense institution, as well as the possibilities to train Moldovan soldiers in German defense schools.

Moldovan-German defense cooperation is based on the Inter-ministry Defense Cooperation Agreement, signed in March 2003.
