Second Moldovan Contingent Carries out KFOR Specific Missions



Chisinau, October 7, 2014 — The second National Army contingent the peacekeeping mission from Kosovo, carries out KFOR specific missions, along with the Italian, Slovenian and Austrian servicemembers.

According to Commander of the Moldovan contingent, LTC Boris Macovei, within September — October, our peacekeepers protected “Camp Vilaggio Italy” Base from Pech, where the Multinational Battle Group — West contingents are dislocated.

LTC Macovei stated that the Moldovan servicemembers carry out ground patrol missions, air patrol mission of recognition and protection of important installations in the area of operations, together with the Italian servicemembers.

The Moldovan soldiers were also trained to carry out quick response and crowd control missions, involving helicopters, firefighting vehicles and other vehicles.

Republic of Moldova deployed a contingent of 40 servicemembers to KFOR mission from Kosovo. The second contingent of the National Army, consisting of 32 soldiers from the infantry unit, 7 EOD engineers and a staff officer, departed for Kosovo on September 6.
