Moldovan Soldiers in KFOR Mission



Chisinau, November 19, 2014 —National Army soldiers deployed to Kosovo execute missions in the theater of operations.

According to Commander of the Moldovan contingent, LTC Boris Macovei, everyday, the National Army peacekeepers protect the base “Camp Vilaggio Italia”, from Pech, and patrol various areas of the region.

The quoted source specified the EOD engineers of the Moldovan contingent research the Mokra Gora Mountain to identify and dispose war explosive devices. "Since the beginning of the mission, our engineers researched about 10 ha of 65 ha of the area. So far, they found a large number of shell splinters and pieces of shells and rockets. Also, Moldovan soldiers checked two helicopter runways and a patrol route near Camp Villagio Base, Boris Macovei said.

The Moldovan soldiers also attend various trainings on quick response and crowd control missions, together with their Italian comrades.

Republic of Moldova deployed a contingent of 40 soldiers — 33 soldiers from the infantry unit, 7 EOD engineers and a staff officer — to KFOR mission in Kosovo. The second contingent of the National Army was deployed to Kosovo on September 6.
