Battalion “Fulger” Marks 22nd Anniversary



Chisinau, November 20, 2014 — Special Forces Battalion “Fulger” celebrated the 22nd anniversary. The event was attended by leaders of the Ministry of Defense, military attachés and veterans of the unit.

Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan, congratulated the staff of the unit on the anniversary. Gen. Gorgan appreciated the operational capabilities development efforts of the servicemembers of Special Forces Battalion “Fulger” and their participation in international exercises in Romania, Germany, Ukraine and USA.

Gen. Gorgan conferred ranks and awarded medals — “Cross of Merit”, “Distinguished Service” Cross, and “Good Conduct Medal” — to a group of officers and NCOs of the Battalion.

The Commander of Battalion “Fulger”, LTC Sergiu Cirimpei appreciated the contribution of each servicemember to promoting the unit. “The officers’ example is the key to success. We are proud of our well-trained servicemembers, whose professionalism was tested in various multinational exercises”, Cirimpei mentioned.

The anniversary ceremony program included weapon-handling and wrestling exercises, special tactics, climbing and fire demonstrations.

Special Forces Battalion “Fulger” was established on November 1, 1992. The mission of the unit is special research, search and rescue, as well as protection of facilities of major importance.
