Commemoration of heroes in Cosnita



CHISINAU, March 14, 2011 - Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta attended Monday, March 14, the commemoration ceremony „Pentru tara, pentru neam” (Serve the country, serve the nation), to remember heroes dead in the Dniester War of 1992.

The event started in Cosnita village, Dubasari district, where battles were carried out in 1992. During the meeting, Vitalie Marinuta stated “By remembering war victims, we express our gratitude towards war survivors. This event is a tragic episode in our history. The young generation bows before all patriots’ sacrifice, courage and strong-mindedness in those tragic moments.”

Mayors of Cosnita, Dorotcaia and Pirita villages, servicemen, heads of local associations of 1992 war veterans laid flowers to the monuments of heroes who died defending Republic of Moldova territory and sovereignty. The participants in the commemoration event also attended a meal of remembrance and watched exhibitions of books, historical documents and paintings.

Nearly 29 000 people were engaged in Dniester War as of 1992. 287 of them died: 198 National Army servicemen and 89 representatives of the Ministry of Interior Affairs. 284 people are now 1st, 2nd and 3rd group invalids as a result of the tragic Dniester War.
