National Army staff to donate money for Japan earthquake victims


CHISINAU, March 17, 2011 - Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta called Thursday, March 16, the National Army staff to donate money for Japan earthquake victims.

Vitalie Marinuta says he wanted to raise National Army military and civil staff’s awareness about the tragedy that hit Japan. Thus, the Minister of Defense called the staff to donate their one-day salary for the victims.

„During these hard moments for the Japanese nation, I call you to be generous and contribute money to support earthquake and tsunami victims that hit the North-East of Japan. This is an act of solidarity for people of Japan, that has always supported Republic of Moldova Government”, Minister Vitalie Marinuta states in his message.

During the Government meeting as of March 16, the members of the Cabinet of Ministers approved the donation of one million MDL for the liquidation of natural disaster consequences in Japan.

Official preliminary statistics show nearly 5300 people died in Japan, over 4000 are missing and about 1800 were injured due to the latest weather disasters.
