Estonia Appoints First Military Attaché to Republic of Moldova



CHISINAU, April 9, 2015 — Minister of Defense, Viorel Cibotaru, met today with the military attaché of Estonia to the Republic of Moldova, LTC Risto Lumi.

Viorel Cibotaru appreciated that Estonia appointed, for the first time, a defense attaché to our country, which is a step forward to strengthening the bilateral military cooperation.

The Minister of Defense thanked the Estonian Government for the support in professional training of National Army servicemembers within the Baltic Defense College from Tartu city. Also, Viorel Cibotaru mentioned the interoperability of the soldiers from the two countries during multinational exercises in the spirit of the Partnership for Peace.

LTC Risto Lumi stated that he is honored to be appointed as military attaché to the Republic of Moldova and will make every effort to reinforce the bilateral cooperation, especially in the defense and security sector.

LTC Risto Lumi graduated from the Military Academy and the Defense College from Helsinki, Finland. He worked in the Defense Forces and Land Forces of Estonia, as well as a defense attaché to Georgia.

The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Defense of Estonia signed a Memorandum of Agreement on military cooperation in October, 2011.
