Minister of Defense and Ambassador of Bulgaria Discuss Bilateral Defense Cooperation



CHISINAU, April 14, 2015 — Minister of Defense, Viorel Cibotaru, met today with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of Moldova, Petar Zahariev Valov.

The discussion was centered on different issues of joint interest, including the defense sector.

Viorel Cibotaru informed the Bulgarian official about the goals of the Ministry of Defense leadership. The Minister spoke about the Armed Forces and national defense sector, reformation plan, the adjustment of national defense legislation in the strategic and geopolitical context, in compliance with the current and future internal and external challenges, the improvement and development of the social package for servicemembers, development of national capabilities for participation in peacekeeping missions, as well as the use of available capabilities in multinational operations.

The Minister of Defense also specified that the National Army intends to improve the military training and educational system, following Bulgaria’s example, which registered important achievements in the reformation of the military educational sector.

Petar Zahariev Valov reiterated the availability of his country to continue to assist the National Army by strengthening the bilateral dialogue. The Ambassador also expressed his support for the organization of activities contributing to the modernization of the defense institutions, and the reinforcement of the relations between the military institutions of Bulgaria and the Republic of Moldova.

The Moldovan-Bulgarian military cooperation started in June, 1995.
