“Northern Shield-2015” Exercise Conducted in Balti (video)
CHISINAU, April 21, 2015 — Today, over 500 National Army servicemembers participated, together with 50 personnel of the Carabineer Troops Department and Civil protection and emergency situations service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in the tactical exercise with shooting drills “Northern Shield-2015”. The event was attended by Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici, Minister of Defense, Viorel Cibotaru, Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan, as well as military defense attaches to Republic of Moldova. The exercise was held at the Military training center of “Moldova” Brigade from Balti. The exercise aimed to test the National Army staff readiness for carrying out established missions, as well as the interoperability of the participating units on ten training sites. The missions included the response of the staff to the blocking of the military unit’s exit, first aid, release of hostages. Also, the participants conducted individual and group shooting drills with different caliber weapons of the National Army. Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici checked the training sites and attended the inspection of the military vehicles of “Moldova” Brigade. The Premier has also observed the staff’s actions while rejecting an attack on the unit. Chiril Gaburici appreciated the high level of training of over 500 National Army servicemembers participating in the exercise, as well as the operational capability of the unit’s vehicles and weapons. “The goal of this exercise was to inspect our servicemembers’ readiness for the country’s defense. It is important that citizens trust the National Army. We need peace and security, and soldiers are those who can guarantee this”, stated the Premier. According to Minister of Defense, Viorel Cibotaru, the National Army organizes such exercise, in cooperation with other structures, for the first time.
