National Army Anniversaries

CHISINAU, April 24, 2015 — The National Army Main Staff marked 23^rd anniversary within a ceremony held at the Ministry of Defense.

On this occasion, a group of servicemembers and civil employees were awarded National Army medals and diplomas.

At the event, Minister of Defense, Viorel Cibotaru, declared that the National Army Main Staff, the most important military structure responsible for the planning and the military control of the troops, was formed in a difficult period for Republic of Moldova. “Twenty three years ago, the institution started its activity by planning some operations for rebuilding the territorial integrity and constitutional order in our country, as well as by participating to combat actions. Those who founded this structure contributed to the creation of the National Army and to the development of the defense and national security field”, said the Minister of Defense.

Viorel Cibotaru congratulated the servicemembers and civilians of the Main Staff and mentioned their contribution to the planning and organization of various exercises in Republic of Moldova and abroad, participation in international peacekeeping missions, and operational capabilities consolidation.

The National Army Main Staff was created on April 24, 1992.

Also today, the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and of the National Army Main Staff participated at the ceremony dedicated to the 23^rd anniversary of the Artillery Unit from Ungheni.

In his speech, the Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan, appreciated the effort of the unit in restoring the military vehicles, as well as the good results obtained during military exercises. “You are a strong team and your mission is of national and strategic importance”, said Gen. Gorgan.

The Artillery Unit was established in April, 1992.
