Ammunition and Weapon Stockpile Management Course in the National Army

CHISINAU, April 30, 2015 — The Ministry of Defense hosted the graduation ceremony of the second level of the Ammunition and Weapon Stockpile Management Course. The event brought together leaders of the Ministry of Defense and of the Main Staff, representatives of the OSCE mission to Republic of Moldova, ambassadors, officers and NCOs of the National Army.

Minister of Defense Viorel Cibotaru stated that a higher level of safety and security for the ammunition and weapons storehouses is a priority for the National Army, and that the management of the institution strives for the achievement of this goal.

Viorel Cibotaru thanked the ambassadors of the countries involved in the course and mentioned that the ongoing support offered to the National Army through various projects contributed both, to the non-proliferation and improvement of the ammunition storage and helped to avoid possible uncontrolled explosions that could put in danger the life of civil population near the ammunition depots.

According to LTC Andrei Camerzan, Head of the Ammunition and Weapons Service of the Logistics Directorate, during the second level of the course, the representatives of the Ministries of Defense, Internal Affairs and Justice, as well as Security Intelligence Service, were trained by a group of servicemembers from the National Army, assisted by trainers from Austria, Canada and Sweden.

LTC Camerzan mentioned that the program of the course, that was held during April 6-May 1, 2015, at the Military Academy of the Armed Forces “Alexandu cel Bun”, included subjects regarding the typology and technology of ammunition, various techniques of marking, painting and inscription of ammunition, and also modern ways of packing and stocking weapons and ammunition under maximum security conditions.

The Ammunition and weapon stockpile management course started in spring 2014 and has three levels (moderation, mentoring, and monitoring).

Thus, at the first stage, international experts trained a group of militaries from the National Army. At the second level, the trained Moldavian servicemembers trained another team of specialists from various institutions of Republic of Moldova, being assisted by experts from Austria, Sweden, and Canada.

At the third level, in 2016, the National Army servicemembers will hold theoretical and practical courses, being supervised by foreign experts.

The Ammunition and weapon stockpile management course is part of a series of projects implemented under the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Defense and OSCE regarding the implementation of the Complex Program on Small Arms and Light Weapons and conventional weapons in Republic of Moldova, signed on 28th of October 2010.
