Executive Vice President of Atlantic Council Visits Ministry of Defense


CHISINAU, May 11, 2015 — Minister of Defense, Viorel Cibotaru, met today with the Executive Vice President of the Atlantic Council, Damon Wilson.

Viorel Cibotaru informed the American official about the objectives of the Government of Republic of Moldova in the field of defense and security. Minister Cibotaru specified that the actions of the current leaders of the Ministry of Defense will concern the adjustment of the defense and policy documents legislation, necessary to continue the reformation of the National Army activity and to improve its efficiency. Also, the new legislation is needed for the promotion of the active-duty military service, and for increasing social-care measures for servicemembers and their families.

The Minister of Defense thanked the US Government for the contribution to the National Army development through the IMET (International Military Education and Training) and GPOI (Global Peace Operations Initiative) programs, as well as joint participation in bilateral activities in the sectors that are important for the National Army.

Damon Wilson expressed the Atlantic Council’s availability to provide our country with expertise for the reformation and modernization of the security and defense sector.

The Atlantic Council delegation, led by Damon Wilson, pays a two-day documentation visit to Chisinau. The Atlantic Council is one of the most influential analytical centers from the USA, working in the international affairs field, offering expertise and counseling to the representatives of the US Administration and Congress, as well as to the American businessmen community.
