Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru Meets with German Bundestag Delegation

CHISINAU, October 8, 2015 — Today, Minister of Defense, Anatol Salaru, met with the German Bundestag delegation.

The meeting was also attended by Adviser to the President on National Defense and Security, Secretary of the Supreme Security Council, Alexei Barbaneagra, Deputy Spokesman for the SDP fraction, Fritz Felgentreu, and Ambassador of Germany, Her Excellency Ulrike Knotz.

The main subjects on the agenda were the concrete steps to be taken for the National Army reformation, the defense strategy, and the geopolitical situation.

Minister of Defense, Anatol Salaru, stated that Republic of Moldova is undergoing many political and security changes, so the National Army must adjust to them and always be in a high state of readiness. Also, Anatol Salaru reiterated that the Ministry of Defense is committed to develop, with the help of other competent institutions and the USA, a new defense and security strategy.

Secretary of SSC, Alexei Barbaneagra, mentioned that the National Army reformation should start from the legal framework which is outdated and needs to be adjusted.

Fritz Felgentreu stated that the army reformation is one of the most ambitious and necessary goals of a country. The Deputy Spokesman expressed his confidence in the Ministry’s activity and pointed out how important is to transform and modernize each field of work.

The officials also discussed about the education of Moldovan servicemembers in military institutions from Germany and their participation in peacekeeping missions.

At the end of the meeting, the German delegation confirmed their support for the European course of the Republic of Moldova.
