Military EOD Engineers Destroy Over 600 Explosives in 2015


Last year, the National Army EOD engineers neutralized over 600 explosive objects in different districts of the country.

Thus, in 2015, the teams from the EOD Battalion, “Moldova” and “Dacia” Brigades destroyed 412 projectiles and bomb-launcher bombs of various calibers, 96 anti-personnel grenades, 49 anti-tank grenades, 22 bullets, seven anti-personnel mines, five anti-tank mines, five 50 kg air bombs, two 250 kg air bombs, and two warheads.

All the ammunition was of Soviet and German origin and dated back to World War II.

According to LTC Serghei Chilivnic, specialist, EOD Division of the National Army, in this period, the military EOD engineers were called in 241 times in the districts of Anenii Noi, Orhei, Stefan Voda, Causeni, Ungheni, Criuleni, Cantemir, Soroca, Hincesti, and Telenesti.

LTC Chilivnic specified that the largest amount of ammunition — 72 bomb-launcher bombs of 81 mm caliber — was destroyed by the service members of “Codru” Battalion from Negresti in February. The ammunition, of German production, was discovered by a local citizen in the forest of Orhei town.

The source mentioned another intervention from December, 2015 in Slobozia, Stefan Voda, where the EOD engineers disposed of 58 hand grenades and 25 bullets of 25 mm caliber. Also in December, the EOD team destroyed 49 submunitions from air bombs discovered in Serpeni, Anenii Noi.
