Moldovan-Belarusian Meeting at Ministry of Defense



CHISINAU, February 25, 2016 — Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru met with military attaché of the Republic of Belarus appointed to the Republic of Moldova, Col. Serghei Maiko. The meeting was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus in the Republic of Moldova, His Excellency Serghei Ciciuc.

The regional security, defense policy and the army’s reformation were the main issues discussed during the meeting.

The Minister of Defense reiterated the importance of Moldovan-Belarusian military relations and highlighted the fact that Moldova and Belarus have always had a good cooperation, on economical and political levels as well.

An important subject mentioned by the Minister of Defense was the necessity to reform and modernize the National Army so it would be interoperable with the armies of NATO countries.

The Minister of Defense also congratulated the officials on the success gained in Brussels, where the European Union lifted a series of sanctions on Belarus and declared its financial support for trade development.

The military attaché of the Republic of Belarus, Col. Serghei Maiko, expressed his support for the National Army in achieving its goals.

At the end of the meeting, the officials expressed their conviction that the bilateral defense relations will be consolidated and the mutual objectives will be achieved.
