National Army Remembers Dniester War Heroes



CHISINAU, March 2, 2016 — National Army military and civil staff participated in the activities marking the Remembrance Day dedicated to the heroes who died in the war for the defense of integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova, conducted in all military garrisons.

Thus, in Chisinau, the Ministry of Defense leadership and the National Army Commanding Officer Corps, together with officials and war veterans, laid flowers at the tombs of the heroes dead in Dniester War buried in “Sfantul Lazar” Cemetery and at Stefan cel Mare’s monument. The event was followed by a Memory March from Marii Adunari Nationale Square to “Maica Indurerata” (Grieving Mother) Monument of “Eternitate” Memorial, where a commemoration meeting was held.

Other service members, together with local public authorities, also conducted commemoration activities in Balti, Cahul, Ungheni garrisons and villages from Floresti, Glodeni, Sangerei, Straseni, and Floresti districts.

Throughout March, the National Army service members will meet with the participants of the war for the defense of integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova in the military units. The Center of Military Culture and History will organize the round table “Retrospective of Dniester War — 1992”.

According to official data, over 30 thousand people participated in the 1991-1992 Dniester War that killed 300 military and civilians and injured 3,500 people.
