Meeting at the Ministry of Defense

CHISINAU, May 6, 2016 — Chief of Defense Policy and Planning Directorate (DPPD), Col. Alexandru Harea, met with military attaché of the Russian Federation to Chisinau, Col. Igor Dovbnea.

The discussions regarded the intention of the Operative Group of Russian Troops (OGRT), deployed illegally to Transnistrian districts, to attend, together with the Armed Forces of the self-proclaimed Transnistrian Moldovan Republic and the staff members of the military attaché’s office of the Russian Federation to Moldova, the parade organized on Victory Day, in Tiraspol, on May 9.

The Ministry of Defense expressed its concern regarding this intention, underlying that a possible participation of OGRT in the event organized in Tiraspol would show lack of respect for the defense institution of the Republic of Moldova.

Col. Igor Dovbnea mentioned that, taking into consideration the actions planned in Chisinau by the Embassy of Russian Federation in the Republic of Moldova, no member of the Russian military attaché staff will attend the parade in Tiraspol. Nevertheless, the military official stressed that the status of members of the Joint Control Commission allows them to visit Transnistria on May 9, in order to monitor the situation in the region.

The Ministry of Defense representative highlighted the fact that such a visit of JCC members must be discussed with the Commission.
