The Joint Moldovan-Romanian Defense Committee Meets in Bucharest



CHISINAU, May 17, 2016 — A Ministry of Defense delegation is attending the meeting of the joint Moldovan-Romanian defense committee, held in Bucharest, Romania, within May 16-17, 2016.

According to State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Aurel Fondos, who is also co-president of the committee on behalf of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova, the meeting’s agenda includes subjects regarding bilateral cooperation, cooperation within regional initiatives and international organizations, as well as assistance and support programs.

The source specified that the experts agreed to analyze and evaluate the results of the joint training programs, organized on national or multinational level in Romania, and the capacity building of the National Army of the Republic of Moldova. The participants will also discuss the cooperation within NATO and EU, as well as within regional initiatives, UN and OSCE, the improvement of the legal framework. The committee members will review the main sectors of the bilateral defense cooperation, will identify the National Army areas that require more training, and the prospective of cooperation between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of National Defense of Romania for 2017.

The first meeting of the joint Moldovan-Romanian committee was held in Chisinau, on September 21, 2015.
