President Nicolae Timofti Attends Military Board Meeting



CHISINAU, May 18, 2016 — President of the Republic of Moldova, Nicolae Timofti, attended today, May 18, the Military Board Meeting of the Ministry of Defense.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the issues of development and modernization of the National Army capabilities, as well as military discipline and the order law.

After the debates, the Head of state made a speech highlighting a string of subjects that are to be considered by the Ministry of Defense leadership while drafting the development process of the National Army and implementing the military discipline consolidation measures.

Thus, the President underlined that maintaining the readiness capabilities must stay a National Army priority and the military discipline issues must be treated exhaustively.

Also, the President mentioned the importance of carrying out the review process of strategic documents and defense normative framework at the highest level. Nicolae Timofti urged the Army leadership to take advantage, as much as possible, of the experience and expertise of foreign partners — the United States of America, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the European Union — in the consolidation of the state’s defense capacity.

The President also reiterated the further support for Ministry of Defense initiatives and efforts aimed to solve the problems faced by service members and expressed his gratitude to the entire National Army staff for the commitment shown in fulfilling their service.
