Working Meeting at the Ministry of Defense Concerning This Week Heavy Rains

CHISINAU, June 2, 2016 — Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru convoked today the chiefs of National Army General Staff units and force commands to analyze the actions and role of the military institution, as well as possible interventions in case of natural disasters. The meeting was held as a result of the heavy rains held this week and the Prime Minister’s orders to take action in order to overcome the situation.

Chief of General Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Cutie, reported that, in case of need, the National Army is available and ready to intervene with soldiers and special vehicles.

Gen. Cutie also specified that taskforce groups were established in the units of the military garrisons from northern, southern and central regions of the country. On authorities’ decision, these groups will be involved in disaster relief operations.

During the meeting, the Minister of Defense asked for maximum responsibility from the military staff in charge of organization, planning and management of the activities necessary to help the population affected by disasters, as well as the local public authorities.
