Moldovan-Turkish Military Cooperation Discussed at the Ministry of Defense



CHISINAU, June 15, 2016 — Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru met today with Ambassador of Turkey to Chisinau, Mehmet Selim Kartal.

The officials discussed about the bilateral military cooperation, with a focus on the importance to strengthen the partnership by identifying sectors of joint interest. The Minister of Defense thanked Mehmet Selim Kartal for the training opportunities offered to National Army soldiers in Turkey. Anatol Salaru specified that, so far, 138 Moldovan soldiers studied in military educational institutions in Turkey.

The discussions were also centered on the importance of the NATO Summit that will take place in Warsaw, in July, 2016, in the context of the current situation in the region.

Anatol Salaru informed the Turkish Ambassador about the priorities of the Ministry of Defense — to adjust the normative and strategic framework and to consolidate the operational capabilities of the National Army. The Minister also mentioned that our country counts on Turkey’s support in achieving the goals set within NATO initiatives.

Mehmet Selim Kartal appreciated the reforms started by the Ministry of Defense and reiterated the availability of his country to continue building an efficient military partnership.
