Moldovan-American Meeting at the Ministry of Defense

CHISINAU, September 6, 2016 — Chief of General Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Cutie, met today with the military attaché of the United States of America to the Republic of Moldova, LTC Jeffrey Alan Muir. The meeting was also attended by the new Chief of the US Office of Defense Cooperation, Jeffrey R. Paquette.

The officials talked about the bilateral military cooperation, with a focus on the significant assistance provided by the US Government to the Republic of Moldova, especially in the training, logistics, and medical areas.

Thus, the National Army Commander thanked the American officials for the possibility offered to Moldovan soldiers to participate in international exercises both in Moldova and abroad: in Ukraine, Germany, Romania, and the USA.

Gen. Cutie also mentioned the important contribution of the American colleagues to the reconstruction of the Military training center from Bulboaca as part of the Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI), as well as part of other social projects.

LTC Jeff Muir reiterated the availability of his country to continue to support the National Army and to start new mutually beneficial cooperation projects.

The Moldovan-American defense cooperation started on December 4, 1995 upon signature of Memorandum “Regarding the cooperation in the military area between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the US Department of Defense”.
