Distinguished Visitors Day at “Fire Shield 2016” (video)

CHISINAU, September 22, 2016 — Representatives of the diplomatic corps to the Republic of Moldova, military attaches, and the Ministry of Defense and National Army leadership attended today the Distinguished Visitors Day within the “Fire Shield 2016” exercise at the National Army Training Area.

The officials were informed about the exercise, visited some training sites, and observed a shooting demonstration with different types of weapons, such as: 2A-36 cannon, M-30 mortar, D-20 mortar, and MT-12 antitank gun.

At the end of the event, Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru stated that the National Army soldiers proved that they have the same level of training as troops from other countries, even if they do not have modern weapons and equipment. “It is very important for us to cooperate with Romanian and US troops. Today, we saw that these soldiers work perfectly together, thus proving that our service members are interoperable with NATO soldiers”, said Minister Salaru.

“Fire Shield 2016” is conducted within September 11-24, 2016 and brings together about 300 soldiers from the Republic of Moldova, Romania, and the United States of America.

The exercise aims to train the artillery units and to increase interoperability among the soldiers of the three countries.

The participating contingents carry out shooting drills from a covered position, shooting drills within platoon and joint batteries, and train on driving combat vehicles.
