Anatol Salaru Met with Klaus Iohannis in Bucharest



CHISINAU, September 30, 2016 — Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru met with President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, on September 29, 2016.

The Moldovan-Romanian bilateral relationship, the regional security, and Transnistria issue were the main subjects discussed by the two officials.

Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru thanked President Klaus Iohannis for the support offered by Romania in the National Army’s reformation and modernization, as well as the support for the Republic of Moldova in continuing its European course. The Minister reiterated that Romania is the most important strategic partner of the Republic of Moldova in the defense and security area.

Thus, Anatol Salaru asked for the Romanian support in changing the peacekeeping format in Transnistria and replacing the Task Force Group of Russian Troops (TFGRT) with UN peacekeepers.

President of Romania Klaus Iohannis underlined that there is a very good cooperation between the two countries and that Romania will continue to support the National Army’s reformation and modernization process.

At the end of the meeting, President Iohannis reiterated that the joint objective of the two nations must be the building and strengthening of cooperation and friendship relations that would be beneficial for both countries.
