Military Academy “Alexandru cel Bun” Celebrates 25th Anniversary (video)



CHISINAU, October 6, 2017 — The Military Academy of Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun” (MAAF) celebrated today its 25th anniversary. On this occasion, the institution organized a ceremony and the Open Doors Day that were attended by the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and General Staff, unit commanders of the defense institution, military attaches, professors, students, and the Academy students’ relatives.

Deputy Defense Minister Gheorghe Galbura congratulated the Academy’s staff and students and specified that, during the 25 years of activity, the institution has become known on national and international levels by being present at international exercises, experience exchanges with colleagues from military educational institutions of other states, as well as through the achievements of the young men who studied in academies from Romania, Hellenic Republic, Turkey.

“Today, the National Army has service members who are well-trained, competent, and always ready to serve in any conditions, theater of operations, together with our partners from the armies of other countries. This would be impossible without the great effort and professionalism of the institution’s leadership, its professors and military staff involved in the training of the future officers”, mentioned Deputy Minister Galbura.

Gheorghe Galbura awarded National Army medals to a group of service members for excellent fulfillment of service duty and performances in their activities.

Commander-rector of MAAF, Col. Sergiu Plop, mentioned that currently the Military Academy trains young men and women on three specialties — infantry, artillery, and communications. The institution also offers MA and PhD studies.

Col. Plop appreciated the support offered by the National Army leadership, former commanders and veterans of the MAAF, as well as the military attaches who contributed to the development and promotion of the institution.

During the event, the military students presented wrestling exercises, tactical exercises using military vehicles, weapons, communications equipment, and carried out shooting drills.

At the same time, the guests attending the ceremony at the Academy had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the institution’s infrastructure, endowment, and activity.

The program also included an exhibition of military vehicles, weapons, and ammunition, engineer and chemical protection equipments, communications equipment, as well as serving some soldier’s porridge.

Within 1995-2017, the Military Academy of Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun” educated about 1,800 officers at different specialties such as: infantry, artillery, communications, border guard, and carabineer.

The length of studies at the MAAF is three years. Accommodation, food and military equipment are free for students.
