National Defense Strategy Approved by the Executive

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the National Defense Strategy and the Action Plan on its implementation for 2017-2021 during today’s session. The document aims to consolidade the mechanism of cross-instututional cooperation in order to develop a modern and efficient defense system.

The Strategy defines the goals, stages and mechanisms for the capacity building of the national defense system. Among these there are the defense of state borders, development of air space control and protection capacity, improvement of the military training system and enhancement of the national system of crisis management.

The main actions of the National Defense Strategy include: providing the armed forces with modern vehicles and equipment, reviewing the responsibilities of force structures, harmonizing the legal provisions which regulate the national defense system with the European norms.

The costs of implementation of these actions will be covered from the state budget and external sources.
