Eugen Sturza Discusses in Brussels the Republic of Moldova-NATO Cooperation



CHISINAU, November 24, 2017 — Minister of Defense Eugen Sturza met with NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Defense Policy and Planning Jonathan Parish in Brussels, on November 23, 2017.

The dialogue was focused on the projects implemented by NATO in our country and the participation of National Army contingents in KFOR mission in Kosovo.

The Minister of Defense appreciated the Alliance’s contribution to the implementation of stage I of the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI) by offering expertise in developing the strategic documents of the defense sector — National Defense Strategy (NDS) and Military Strategy (MS). Eugen Sturza informed Jonathan Parish that the NDS was approved by the Government and the MS is being finalized.

Minister Sturza also mentioned the NATO/PfP Project on disposal of dangerous pesticides and chemicals in the Republic of Moldova that started in 2006. As a result of this project, 3,245 tons of pesticides were collected throughout the country.956 tons were destroyed with the support of NATO. 

Eugen Sturza underlined that the Republic of Moldova has the strategic objective of reforming the defense sector and thus requested the NATO support in implementing stage II of the DCBI which includes the development of military capabilities.

Another important part of the dialogue was the intention of our country to continue to participate in international missions and operation.
