Ministry of Defense Marks 26th Anniversary
CHISINAU, February 6, 2018 — The Ministry of Defense organized today a ceremony marking the institution’s 26th anniversary.
During the event, Minister of Defense Eugen Sturza congratulated the institution’s staff and awarded diplomas to a group of service members and civil servants for performances in their activity.
Eugen Sturza mentioned that, during these 26 years, the Ministry of Defense proved that it can provide results that contribute to the development and reformation of the defense sector. “The value of the Ministry of Defense is represented by its people — veterans who have built the institution and all the staff who, for the past 26 years, has been working with effort and commitment to maintain the citizens’ trust in the defense institution”, said Minister Sturza.
The Ministry of Defense was established on February 5, 1992, by Decree of the President of the Republic of Moldova. Its mission is to develop and promote the state policy aimed to ensure the national defense, to lead and coordinate the National Army’s activities in the national defense and security sector.
In 2018, the institution’s efforts will focus on modernizing and equipping the National Army, improving the military infrastructure, the efficient use of opportunities offered by foreign assistance programs, and enhancing the management of defense resources.
