The National Army Commemorates the Heroes of the Independence



CHISINAU, March 2, 2018 — Commemoration events dedicated to the heroes who died defending the integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova were organized today in all the National Army garrisons.

In Chisinau, the Ministry of Defense leadership and the National Army Commanding Officer Corps, together with officials and war veterans, laid flowers at Stefan cel Mare si Sfant monument. The event was followed by a Memory March from Marii Adunari Nationale Square to “Maica Indurerata” (Grieving Mother) Monument of “Eternitate” Memorial, where a commemoration meeting was held.

The service members from Balti, Cahul, Ungheni, Causeni garrisons and from villages of Cantemir, Glodeni, Hancesti, Sangerei, Straseni, and Floresti districts attended commemoration ceremonies organized together with the local public authorities. Similar actions were conducted in Cocieri, Varnita, and Cosnita.

On the Remembrance Day, the Center of Military Culture and History, together with the Military Academy of Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun” and the Institute of Juridical and Political Research of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, organized the scientific conference “Acţiunile de luptă de la Nistru (1992)” (Combat actions on Dniester), attended by representatives of our country’s academic environment.

According to official data, over 30 thousand people participated in the 1991-1992 Dniester War that killed 300 military and civilians and injured 3,500 people.
