Moldovan-Swedish Defense Consultations in Stockholm

During the sessions, the representatives of Defense Policy and Planning Directorate and International Cooperation Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and from the international cooperation departments of the defense institution of the Kingdom of Sweden talked about the reformation process of the defense sector in our country, its achievements and prospects, as well as establishing new cooperation directions.
The talks were focused on military education and science through the organization of joint scientific activities, establishing the cooperation between the Military Academy of Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun” and the Swedish National Defense Research Institute. The officials also analyzed possible ways for Sweden to support the objective of increasing the National Army’s participation in international peacekeeping operations.
An important element of the consultations was the implementation in the Republic of Moldova of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security and the Comprehensive Programme on Small Arms Light Weapons and Conventional Ammunition (SALW) and the Sweden’s support in reaching the objectives set in this framework.
