The Cooperation Perspectives of the Republic of Moldova with European Unions Discussed at Ministry of Defense



CHISINAU, May 7, 2018 — Minister of Defense Eugen Sturza met today with Ambassador Peter Michalko, Head of European Union Delegation to Moldova.

The officials talked about subjects related to the reform started by the Ministry of Defense concerning the National Army professionalization, regional security, as well as the perspectives of defense cooperation with EU in the framework of the Association Agreement.

Eugen Sturza informed the European official about the Ministry of Defense’s objectives for 2018 including the adjustment and approval of strategic documents — National Defense Strategy and Military Strategy, National Army professionalization, and strengthening the military bilateral relations with the EU States.

The Minister of Defense also mentioned the two major EU initiatives in the defense sector — Capacity Building for Security and Development (CBSD) and Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) and expressed his hope that they will facilitate our defense sector’s integration into the defense system of the European community.

Peter Michalko appreciated Moldova’s interest to participate in EU-led stabilization and peacekeeping operations. The official added that EU is available to support the reforms started by the Ministry of Defense aimed to modernize the defense sector.
