European Official Pays Visit to Ministry of Defense



CHISINAU, June 8, 2018 — Minister of Defense Eugen Sturza met today with Director of Crisis Management and Planning Directorate (CMPD) of the European External Action Service, Gabor Iklody. The meeting was also attended by Peter Michalko, Head of European Union Delegation to Moldova.

The two officials talked about the security and defense cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, with a focus on our country’s participation in EU-led peacekeeping and crisis management operations and the development of capacities of response to hybrid warfare threats.

Eugen Sturza appreciated EU’s support in enhancing national defense capacities and thanked for the training offered to the representatives of the Eastern Partnership states that aimed to familiarize the participants with the Common Security and Defense Policy of the EU.

The Minister of Defense referred also to the EU’s support for the participation of Moldovan military in EU-led crisis management operations and mentioned that the National Army wishes to continue and even to increase its presence in operations of this kind.

Gabor Iklody welcomed the availability and interest of the National Army to participate in EU stabilization and peacekeeping operations. The official added that the EU is open to support Moldova’s efforts aiming to reform the national security system.
